A young couple bought a Victorian terrace on a probate sale. Nothing had been touched since the 1970s. They wanted to keep the character — fireplaces, cornicing, sash windows — but bring it up to modern standards.
Knob-and-tube wiring, an asbestos flue, a sinking kitchen floor from a historic water leak, and an immovable move-in deadline six months away because of a new baby due.
Our project manager ran four trades in parallel on a tight programme — sparks, plumbers, plasterers and joiners all on our team. Original fireplaces and cornicing were surveyed, catalogued and hand-restored. Asbestos removal was handled by a licensed specialist we brought in. Underpinning and new oversite concrete solved the sinking kitchen floor permanently.
- Family moved in 10 days before baby arrived
- Every original period feature retained or restored
- Two subsequent friends of the client booked follow-on jobs
